Former Braves outfielder Nixon arrested in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Jail records show that former Major League Baseball outfielder Otis Nixon was arrested on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and permitting an unlicensed person to drive.

Atlanta police spokesman Officer Kim Jones says 56-year-old Nixon was arrested Tuesday night. Jones did not provide any further details.

Nixon was released from the Fulton County jail Wednesday after posting a $2,500 bond.

[ Editor’s notes:  if you’ve been following the Braves for any time at all, you’ll realize that this isn’t Nixon’s first brush with the law.  He’s had issues with cocaine addiction dating back to his playing days:  arrested on drug charges in 1987 (Indians); suspended for a failed drug test in 1991 (Braves)… missing the World Series.

It appeared that Nixon had turned his life around for some time. But five months after a 2012 divorce, Nixon was arrested with crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.   And that wasn’t the only scheme he had going, either.

It’s really disconcerting to google up an athlete’s name and see as many pictures of him in an orange-and-white striped prison uniform rather than one with a tomahawk on the front of it. ]
