Best Honeymoon Ever, Day 8: New York City

The previous day before the Yankee game, our group had the pleasure of touring South Manhattan on our way to do a Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island tour. You can still see the effects of Hurricane Sandy on Ellis Island as they are working to get the facility better temperature controlled before they return certain artifacts to the museum. Regardless, it is an impressive thing to be able to see the island where so many entered this country.

Thursday was a free day for us in the city, and my wife and I chose to do a hop-on/hop-off tour bus around the northern part of the city, seeing sites like Grant’s Tomb, Harlem, Central Park, and more. One of the highlights of our afternoon was the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Especially intriguing to me was a musical instrument display, showing instruments from all over the world, along with the history of different musical instruments.

My wife and I also enjoyed walking through the Museum of Natural History, the museum featured in the Night At the Museum movie series. We got a  picture with the infamous statue known for its phrase in the movie, “Dum dum got gum gum?!” We also found our way to the infamous Soup Man store featured on the Seinfeld show.

Thursday evening, my wife and I took the plunge and purchased extremely good seats to see Wicked on Broadway, and we’ll never regret that decision. The cast was amazing, the music was incredible, and our seats felt like we were right in the middle of everything going on.

We ended the evening with a walk from our show over to the Empire State Building to get a near-midnight view of the city from 86 floors up. It was certainly a breath-taking experience!

Tomorrow we head to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
