But Mr. Brightside has been shining upon us and June has been a different story for the majority of the bullpen.  Let’s take a quick look at the players who’ve been performing admirably:

David Aardsma: 2.45 ERA, but has allowed 2 of 5 Inherited Runners to score

Jason Grilli– 0.00 ERA, but has allowed 2 unearned runs

Nick Masset– 1.29 ERA and hasn’t allowed any of the 5 Inherited Runners to score

Jim Johnson– 1.86 ERA, however has allowed 3 of 3 Inherited Runners to score

Pretty good, right?  So, how about the other 3?  Ummm… not so much.

Luis Avilan– 5.63 ERA and has appeared in 37 games to day, the largest number in the Major Leagues.  Needless to say, he might need a break.

Brandon Cunniff– 4.66 ERA- His strikeout rate is climbing and walk rate dropping but batters are still hitting him pretty hard.

Dana Eveland– 4.50 ERA and his FIP is much worse.  Obviously not a good sign, but we’re really only talking about 2 innings.  In my opinion, should be a “clean slate” inning kind of a reliever, not used as a LOOGY.
