Braves third baseman Philip Gosselin is day to day after suffering a sprained thumb Sunday against the Marlins, MLB.com reports.

Gosselin suffered the injury while making a diving play in the third inning, which he completed before being replaced in the fourth.

“I think I’ll be all right,” Gosselin said while wearing a brace on his left hand. “As soon as I see the doctor, I’ll know. But I’m pretty positive about it until I hear otherwise.”

[ Ed. note:  that will be an interesting outcome, for it could be bad news, too:  just as Atlanta seems to be freeing itself from Alberto Callaspo, there’s a chance we’ll have to see him at the hot corner again for some time.  Let’s hope not, for Gosselin and Todd Cunningham had both been huge sparks for the team this weekend. ]
