The Offense That Wasn’t Supposed to Be
The aspect of this Braves team most thought would be the trouble spot, has been anything but that. The offense for the Braves this season was supposed to be dismal. That being said, the offense may not require as much of an adjustment as the pitching staff is in need of.
The Braves aren’t exactly cranking out home runs like we’re accustom to. They also haven’t struck out as much either. In terms of strikeouts, the Braves are 3rd in all of baseball (1st in NL) for least amount of K’s with 210. A far cry from where they were last year. However, collectively as a team, they rank 15th in AVG. (.254). They also sit around the middle (7th) for runs scored in the NL at 143.

As I mentioned earlier, it may be time to move on from Callaspo. Even with Kelly Johnson landing on the DL with an oblique strain, The Braves still have options. Recently called up Pedro Ciriaco would do for starters. Chris Johnson being on the DL as well, opens the door for that to happen, perhaps.
As hot as Jace Peterson has gotten, you want his bat in the lineup. So move Peterson to third and plug Ciriaco in at second. Do I even dare I say Jose Peraza‘s name? Also with K. Johnson down, Jonny Gomes will most likely see more time in left field. Maybe some extended playing time will be beneficial to him.
Obviously, we had all hoped for better than this. However, given the circumstances, I think we should be glad it isn’t any worse. It could easily very well be. Just be thankful this isn’t the Braves of the 1980’s. No one, I believe, wishes to go there again.
