Braves Prospects to Watch During Instructional Camp
For many of the Atlanta Braves prospects, 2020 will be a lost year. But they will get some work during the team’s instructional camp.
Since there was no Minor League Baseball season or Arizona Fall League, many teams — including the Atlanta Braves — are holding instructional camps this fall.
Now, this has actually been going on for quite some time, but we failed to mention it as the Braves were in the midst of a postseason run.
And then when that ended I just honestly didn’t have the motivation to talk about baseball for a bit.
But now it’s time to turn the page, and we do that by looking to the future, which is exactly what prospects are.
The Braves will hold their own instructional camp and essentially it sounds like an extension of the alternate site camp that took place during the regular season.
Baseball American provided a list of players that were invited to the instructional camp.
You won’t see a ton of top prospects on this list, but you do see all of the Braves recent draft picks and non-drafted signees. It will be interesting to hear the reports on them — if we even get any.
Michael Harris II is probably the most intriguing prospect on this list as he’s someone I could see shooting up the rankings next year.
The reason I think you don’t see many of the Braves top prospects included with this group is that many of them got plenty of time at the alternate site. And a lot of them were on the taxi squad in case of emergency to help the Braves in the postseason.
I’m not sure if so of those players could be added now. With this pretty much being run by the Braves, I assume they can add whoever they want when they want.
But I think this is just an opportunity for the staff to work closely with these prospects.
A lot of other teams are meeting out in Arizona and actually playing games. I wish the Braves could do the same, and I wish we could get some kind of reporting on what’s happening.
But at least some of this year won’t be a total loss for some of these players. And maybe we’ll get a chance to see them in action in some winter leagues.
