Atlanta Braves – Luke Jackson’s Blown Saves – May 9

This time Jackson was called upon in the ninth inning to preserve a 2-1 lead, again against the Diamondbacks. He retired the first two batters and then hung a slider to David Peralta who made him pay. The left-handed Peralta turned on it and tied the game with a solo homer to rightfield.

Fair enough.

Prior to this outing, Jackson had earned four saves in four consecutive outings. Arcia hit a slider straight into the dirt which bounced its way over Freeman’s head and into rightfield. Lorenzo Cain then doubled to tie the game.

Blown save.

Jackson would ultimately work his way out of a bases-loaded jam with one out to preserve the tie and set up Freddie Freeman’s walk-off homer in the 10th off of Josh Hader.

In San Francisco against the Giants, Jackson entered in the ninth with a 3-1 lead. He began by getting Longoria to ground out to third base. Brandon Crawford lined a single to left. Steven Duggar struck out. Crawford then took second on indifference.

Then Kevin Pillar went down and got a breaking ball out of the zone. It was a good pitch that he just reached out and made contact with. The result was a roller up the middle to score Crawford, making it 3-2.

Pillar stole second, to move the tying run into scoring position with one out. Pablo Sandoval came in as a pinch-hitter and reached at a breaking ball down and away, off the plate at sho level and somehow put it into play. By the time it reached Donaldson’s glove, Pillar was standing on third and Sandoval safely at first.

Mac Williamson pinch ran for the Panda and promptly took second on a nasty slider in the dirt. Joe Panik then hit a solid ground-ball single to score Pillar and Williamson to walk it off for the Giants.

Recap: Blown Save on four hits, three of which were ground balls.
