It goes without saying you were doing something right if you finished a season with the second-most wins in your league. Max Fried did exactly that last year for the Atlanta Braves when he was able to rack up 17 wins.

As we all know though, wins can be an inaccurate stat to rely solely upon how good a pitcher was over the course of a season.

The first thing Fried can do to help out is to try to lower that WHIP some. Throughout his young career, Fried has constantly been around that 1.5 WHIP.

Personally, I would like to see this number lowered down to closer to the 1 mark. Fewer base runners will obviously lead to more success for the young left-handed pitcher.

Lowering his WHIP will obviously go hand-in-hand with the next thing to do as well which is simply, lowering the ERA.

Entering the summer months in 2019, Fried had an outstanding sub-three ERA. Expecting that out of him might be a tad unrealistic, but hopefully it can come down to the mid-threes instead of the 4.03 he ended the season with last year.

If memory serves me correct, it seemed that a few times in the second half of last season Fried was starting to run a tad closer to empty in his tank.

Only making 12 to 15 starts max this season should obviously help that cause and keep his arm fresh all the way well into hopefully late October.

Pitching in late October for Fried would be a welcome sight for us all.
