How should the Atlanta Braves handle extra innings?

Atlanta Braves Lineup Construction

If Swanson and Inciarte are running back-to-back in the lineup, that might be an issue, but for Albies in particular, a bunt might not be a bad play… especially since he could beat out the play at first regardless of what else happens on the play.

However, if there are two or three thumpers following a bunter in the order, the chances to drive home a run would seem to increase with a runner on third base and no worse than 1 out.

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS.

Beyond that, if it’s some combination of Freeman, Duvall, Ozuna, d’Arnaud, Riley, or Camargo that would be in the parade of hitters coming up in the 10th (or later)… I’m taking my chances with each of them swinging away.

Even Albies has the power, though his homers are often higher trajectory shots more conducive to the sacrifice fly.

Ronald Acuna?  Well, he’s a tie-breaker the moment he arrives at the plate, so there’s no sense in moving a runner ahead of him regardless.  In fact, during some situations, there’s a non-zero chance of him being walked in extra innings.

This is going to be interesting to track the strategies and how well they play out.  One requires a single hit over three batters; the other requires either that or a specific type of out from the next man up.

Next. The Beauty of Bobby. dark

Gut feel here is that players like Swanson and Inciarte are candidates to try to move a runner over; as for everybody else?  Bombs away.
