The Atlanta Braves didn’t have a lot of first-round picks at the turn of the century, and the picks they did make weren’t great.

1997 – Troy Cameron – 29th

An infielder out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida, Cameron spent four-and-a-half years in the Braves system and never made it above High-A.

He stuck it out for a while and finally made it to Triple-a with the San Diego Padres in 2005, but that was as high as he’d make it before calling it quits.

2000 – Scott Thorman – 30th

Thorman is the only one of these three I actually remember as he got a decent cup of coffee with the Braves in the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

He played in 175 big league games and hit .222 with 16 home runs.

The Canadian hung around the league for four more years playing mostly in Triple-A for various teams.

2001 – Macay McBride – 24th

A left-handed pitcher from Atlanta’s backyard of Sylvania, Ga., McBride was really solid in the minors and quickly got called up in 2005 as a 22-year-old.

But he was never able to put it together consistently at the big league level. Although, his numbers don’t look terrible with a 4.35 ERA in and 6-2 record in 103.1 innings out of the bullpen.

However, his 1.626 WHIP and 5.6 BB/9 tell a different story and explain why he didn’t stick in the league.
