Who will win the last bench spot(s)

Obviously, with the new rules in the game, every team will take north 26 players on the everyday roster. In turn, that means most likely every team will have a minimum of five players on the bench.

We know this much already, and that is that Tyler Flowers, Nick Markakis, and Adeiny Hechavarria will all make the team provided they get through the spring healthy (more on that later).

Also at this point, it seems like a long shot that Adam Duvall will be shipped off, so the odds are in his favor as far as making the team as well.

By all indications, most would agree that Johan Camargo is the favorite to start the year off as the Atlanta Braves third baseman. If Austin Riley obliterates spring pitching, then maybe that changes, but for now, it seems he will start off the year playing for the Stripers and collect everyday at-bats.

That kind of brings us to the next point as well. Cristian Pache will not make the team out of spring training, and despite the fact that he is on the current 40 man roster, he will open the season in Triple-A.

You obviously do not put him on the Major League team until he is ready to collect everyday at-bats and presumably take over a starting spot in the outfield.

That leaves us with two options for possibly the last spot. Alex Jackson and Charlie Culberson.

Everything should point to Charlie getting the spot. He’s versatile, and really, does a team need three catchers at one time? Not to mention that Culberson could catch and pitch if needed.

The one knock is Charlie would have to be added back on the 40 man roster, but with 24 pitchers currently on the 40 man, odds are one could easily be removed and simply sent back to the minors. It will be an interesting story to follow this Spring for sure.
