Atlanta Braves: Kyle Seager trade as a possibility
The Decision
After evaluating the statistics as well as the costs, I do not believe that a trade for Seager is worth what it would cost the Braves not only this year but in years to come.
Yes, he would cost less in a trade than Bryant or Arenado, but the difference between him and the players we already have is not great enough to justify paying his salary as well as trading away anyone, let alone valued prospects.
He could block other potential deals with his large contract, such as a Freddie Freeman extension or signing other free agents. All that for a player with decent numbers is not too appealing.
Camargo and Riley are already going to compete to see which one can bring more value to the team in 2020. After all the work it’s said they have put in this off-season, one of them should step up to put up decent enough numbers to bring the value we need.
The numbers and outlook for Camargo, Riley, and Seager are just too similar for this trade to seem positive enough for the Braves to fully consider making the deal.
Not to mention, the Mariners have not been very active in trade this offseason. If they were to break onto the trade scene, it’s likely they would ask for a large deal to make up for their losses on the major league level.
I also do not see the Braves going for a blockbuster like that to give the Mariners all the help they need for the upcoming season.
This deal would not be beneficial enough on either side to make it worth while. So far, it is looking like the best plan is to stick with whoever wins the Camargo and Riley battle in Spring Training and re-evaluate at the trade deadline.
