Ozzie Albies – MLB’s No. 4 Best Second Baseman

MLB’s Top 10 2B Right Now

  1. Ketel Marte, ARI
  2. DJ LeMaheiu, NYY
  3. Jose Altuve, HOU
  4. Ozzie Albies, ATL
  5. Brandon Lowe, TB
  6. Keston Hiura, MIL
  7. Mike Moustakas, CIN
  8. Cavan Biggio, TOR
  9. Kolten Wong, STL
  10. Luis Arraez, MIN

Albies was ranked as the fourth-best player at the keystone position and that’s exactly where he finished in 2B WAR last season. To ascend any higher would see Albies potentially garnering MVP votes in the future.

Is that very far out of the question? Albies is just 23-years-old and only getting better.

Ozzie Albies is quickly becoming one of the most recognizable second basemen in all of baseball. Last season he took a massive step toward superstardom. He raised his year-over-year average from .261 to .295, his OBP from .305 to .352, and his slugging percentage from .452 to .500.

Ozzie represented the Braves in his first All-Star game in 2018 and won the Silver Slugger Award last season. Albies has finished in the top six in doubles in each of the past two seasons. His eight triples were good for third in the NL.

For all the firepower up and down the Braves’ lineup, Ozzie Albies led the Braves in hits, singles, doubles, and triples last season.

His .295 average tied for first in team batting average with Freddie Freeman and Matt Joyce. Albies also led the club in home runs against left-handed pitching by smashing 11 bombs against southpaws with 13.5 at-bats per homer.

On top of all of those accomplishments, Albies scored 102 runs, stole 15 bags, and was in contention for the NL Gold Glove.

The future is bright for Albies, as in: “it probably involves a lot of shiny trophies”.
