Pitching comparisons

As I wrote recently, I’m much more optimistic about the Braves starting rotation in 2020 than most.

light. Related Story. Top 10 rotation

I believe Cole Hamels is an upgrade over Dallas Keuchel, and I’m expecting to get a full season of the Mike Foltynewicz we saw in the second half of 2019.

Hamels, Folty, Mike Soroka, and Max Fried make a really strong 1-2-3-4 in the starting rotation.

Atlanta went into the 2019 season thinking Folty and Sean Newcomb were going to lead the rotation and that went South in a hurry.

They brought in Keuchel to steady the ship, and he did. Fried was huge early in the year and Soroka was great throughout after missing most of the first month.

Newcomb was great in the bullpen and if he can carry that back into being a starter that makes this one of the deepest rotations in baseball.

And after failing to address the bullpen an offseason ago, AA has corrected that mistake this offseason by signing Will Smith and re-signing Chris Martin to create one of the best bullpens on paper in Major League Baseball.

I feel very confident in saying that going into the 2020 season this pitching staff is much improved over the 2019 version from top to bottom.
