5. Yasiel Puig, OF

Last season for the Reds and the Indians, Yasiel Puig had a solid season at the plate.

He slashed .263/.330/.476 with 24 home runs and 84 runs batted in.

His defense was below average, as he had a Defensive WAR of -0.5. According to Fangraphs, his Defensive Runs Saved was 26th out of 50 outfielders at zero. His UZR was 30th at -0.7.

Also of note, Puig has not always been a fit in the clubhouse and community in previous stints, specifically with the Dodgers.

But it seems like those issues are in the past for the 29-year-old, who is projected to get a 1-year deal worth $8 million according to MLB Trade Rumors.

4. Todd Frazier, 3B

The Todd-Father had a solid season last season for the Mets, benefitting from being protected by Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, and Michael Conforto.

He hit 21 homers and drove in 67 runs, while slashing .251/.329/.443.

His defense was okay, as he had 0.2 defensive WAR. His DRS was 10th among 20 third basemen and his UZR was 14th.

MLB Trade Rumors does not have a contract prediction for Frazier, but it would be difficult to expect the soon-to-be 34-year-old to get more than $5 million per season.

Analysis:

Puig seems like too much of a risk, considering some of the issues he has had. Yes, he has been much better recently, but it’s still there.

Frazier could be a nice one-year bridge to Austin Riley and it seems plausible he could still hit 20 or so home runs. Heck, if Riley is ready by June, then Frazier can either be traded or become a valuable bench option.
