Josh Donaldson

We’ll start with the obvious one in Josh Donaldson. With him gone there will be a huge gap not only at third base, but in the lineup behind Freddie Freeman.

Donaldson bet on himself last offseason by taking a one-year deal with the Braves and is ready to cash in this offseason after hitting .259 with 37 home runs and 94 RBI in 2019.

Baseball Reference had him as a 6 WAR player in 2019, and that includes the Gold Glove level defense that he played.

He finished second behind Nolan Arenado at third base for the Gold Glove award.

Now the soon to be 34-year-old slugger is looking for a multi-year deal to possibly finish out his career.

The Braves and Donaldson obviously have a lot of interest in each other, but there are plenty of teams that will be in on Donaldson.

And it could take a while to figure out exactly what the market is like for Donaldson because we’ll have to wait for Anthony Rendon to sign.

But still, back to the point, it would make a lot of sense for the Braves to re-sign Donaldson.

He’s likely going to want a three-year deal for around $75 million, but I’m hoping the Braves don’t go beyond two-years (and maybe an option year) at about $20 million a year.

If he gets a better offer than that somewhere else, we appreciate the rain you brought in 2019.
