Starling Marte

This is a name that I hadn’t really thought about, but it makes a lot of sense and could be a really good fit.

I think the package on this one is just about perfect as well. If anything, it might be a bit of an overpay for the Atlanta Braves.

The Pittsburgh Pirates would get three of the Braves’ top 11 prospects, according to MLB.com.

But the Braves have plenty of young pitching depth to trade from, and with them drafting Shea Langeliers in the first round of this year’s draft, it makes William Contreras a little expendable.

And the Braves have a ton of outfield depth in the minors, so losing Greyson Jenista wouldn’t rock the boat.

Marte comes with two years of team control left. He has an $11.5 million team option for 2020 and a $12.5 million team option for 2021.

That’s a very good figure for someone of his caliber.

This past season he hit .295 with 23 home runs, 97 runs scored, 82 RBI, and 25 stolen bases.

He’s also Gold Glove caliber in left field, which would allow Ronald Acuna Jr. to move to right — assuming Ender Inciarte is back in center field.

That outfield defense would be the best in the game.

I really like this deal and now I really want to see the Atlanta Braves go after Marte this offseason.
