The cost

What is surprising to me is even though it would be just a one-year “rental,” Betts value is still extremely high on baseballtradevalues.com, where he is worth a 51.4 score.

For comparison’s sake, Francisco Lindor, who has two years of control left, has a value of 62.1. Kris Bryant, also with two years of control, has a value of 20. Whit Merrifield, who has three years of control left, has a value of 44.3.

This shows just how talented Betts is. Only a year of control and Betts has more value than three all-stars with multiple years of control.

If the Atlanta Braves were to get involved, what would a trade proposal look like? It is going to take multiple top five-organization prospects, plus more. Safe to assume there will need to be a top 50 prospect in the game.

Based on value, Pache and Waters might not be in the mix, but Ian Anderson (39.9), Kyle Wright (24.1), and Kyle Muller (23.8) could headline the deal, with two or three more prospects as well.

A sample proposal might look like this:

Braves: Betts

Red Sox: Kyle Wright (24.1), Kyle Muller (23.8), and C.J. Alexander (4.6), which equals 52.6.

It might even take more than that. Rarely does the market see a player of this caliber, so an overpay might be necessary.
