The raw numbers

When I wrote that May article, the Braves were in the midst of a road trip out West, having only played 20 games at SunTrust Park.

Those first 20 home games brought a total of 594,882 fans to the park (9th-most in MLB) — an average of 29,744 per game (13th).

Those were some decent numbers, but this was at a time when most of the country’s schools were still in session. Not to mention, it was super early in the season.

With just those two factors alone, you really couldn’t produce much of a takeaway from the data (though, that didn’t stop me from writing 800 words about the subject, but I digress).

But now that the Braves are one of the top-5 teams in the majors, and just a few games away from clinching the NL East — are more fans showing up?

The answer is yes, but maybe not as much as they (we) should…

At the time of this writing, the Braves’ most recent home game came on Sunday, Sept. 8, a matchup that drew 31,789 fans to SunTrust Park — just a tad less than their current average for the 2019 season.

Through 75 home games, the Atlanta Braves are now at 2,452,925 total fans and 32,705 per game — an increase of 2,961 fans since my piece published in May (that difference is roughly the average attendance of a Gwinnett Stripers home game in 2019).

It appears that Braves’ fans have shown appreciation for what the team has achieved so far this season — that’s always good.
