Riley and Roster Considerations

Riley is expected to begin a rehab assignment sometime this weekend or next week. Swanson’s timetable seems to be on a similar track as well. This would be a nice boost for a team that just lost Ender Inciarte for a second time and that is still without Nick Markakis.

I’m unsure what will happen with Hechavarría and recently acquired Billy Hamilton when Riley and Swanson return from injury. I’d assume that it has a lot to do with how well Riley and Swanson perform during their rehab stints.

If I’m the Atlanta Braves front office, I’d consider sending Riley to Gwinnett for the remainder of their season and let him figure out his offensive troubles. Although I can see them wanting to keep him on the roster with how much pop his bat carries.  He would likely be back in September when rosters expand regardless.

Whatever happens, I’m sure the right decisions will be made and the team will be more than happy to welcome either one of these guys back to the lineup.

Freeman and Snitker at odds over benching Acuña?

If you were watching the broadcast of the Atlanta Braves series win over the NL West-leading Dodgers, you may have seen a point when Freddie Freeman and Brian Snitker carried a serious conversation in the dugout.

This particular interaction took place after Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from the game after failing to run out a ball that he mistakingly assumed was a home run.

The ball bounced off the right-field wall and Acuña ended up with just a single instead of what should have been at least a double.

A lot of speculation was made after this conversation between Freddie and Snit was seen on screen by many fans. What were they discussing? Was Freddie mad that Ronald was taken out in an important game? Or was it related to that incident at all?

We finally have clarity on that conversation.
