2. Max Fried is Back

It seems that the All-Star break was a good thing for Braves left-hander, Max Fried. He has been pitching much more like the Max Fried from the first month and a half of the season.

Coming into Tuesday’s game, Fried had won 4 consecutive decisions when taking the mound for the Atlanta Braves.

We have needed Max to figure things out and get back to pitching the way he did at the start of the season. Luckily for Brian Snitker and the Braves, he has gotten back to his winning ways.

When Max has control of his fastball, he usually does extremely well for Atlanta. It makes his curveball even more impossible to hit. Fried finished Tuesday’s outing after 6 innings allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

I know the 3 walks look concerning but they really weren’t bad walks. He barely missed off the plate and just couldn’t get a couple of Mets to chase out of the zone. That happens from time to time.

What I liked is that Max wasn’t afraid to attack hitters at all. He challenged them and if they were going to have success, they had to beat him.

You can tell that he’s turned a corner in the right direction because he had inconsistent contact from the Mets offense.

The second inning was the only inning in which Fried struggled. He allowed a single on two outs to Juan Lagares, hit pitcher Zack Wheeler with a pitch, and an RBI single to Jeff McNeil. Other than that, Fried was excellent as he earned his 5th consecutive winning decision and his 14th win of the season.

This is the most wins amongst all left-handed pitchers in Major League Baseball. He is just 1-win away from being the first Atlanta Braves starter to reach 15 wins since Kris Medlen did so in 2013.

The combo of Mike Soroka and Max Fried is just starting to pay dividends for the Braves. We are in for many years of great pitching from these two and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish.
