Results against top pitchers

Again, there could be a few that I’m missing here. And there may be some pitchers on this list that don’t belong.

I tried to only include pitchers who I think are some of the best in baseball right now, and then we’ll look at at the pitchers they could face in the postseason.

Caleb Smith – April 7 – 6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 ER, 7 K; July 6 – 6 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 R (3 ER), 6 K

Smith has had a great year and is definitely a top pitcher in 2019. Even though he’s registered a quality start against the Atlanta Braves both times he’s faced them, I still like what the Braves lineup has done against him.

Jacob deGrom – April 14 – 5 IP, 5 H, 4 BB, 3 ER, 9 K; June 18 – 8.1 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 ER, 10 K; June 28 – 6 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 ER, 7 K

deGrom is someone the Atlanta Braves are very familiar with. He’s dominated them once this year, but our lineup competed pretty well against him those other two starts.

Trevor Bauer – April 20 – 6.1 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 ER, 10 K; August 3 – 4.2 IP, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 ER, 4 K

At the beginning of this season many thought Bauer would win the Cy Young. Now he’s not even with the same team and the Atlanta Braves have frustrated him both times they’ve faced him.

Sonny Gray – April 23 – 5.1 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 4 ER, 9 K; August 4 – 7 IP, 4 H, 4 BB, 0 ER, 7 K

Gray has found his footing again in the National League. The Braves did well against him in Cincy, but struggled at home.

Luis Castillo – April 25 – 6 IP, 8 H, 0 BB, 0 ER, 2 K

Castillo is becoming one of the best pitchers in the game. The Atlanta Braves collected eight hits off him and struck out just twice, but somehow didn’t manage to score a run.

Chris Paddack – April 30 – 6 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 ER, 5 K

Another young pitcher who got out to a great start. He really pitched well against the Atlanta Braves early in the season.

Jeff Samardzija – May 22 – 6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 R (0 ER), 7 K

I was surprised to see Samardzija in the top 40 in ERA, but he’s had a pretty good year. He ran into some tough luck against the Atlanta Braves early this year as he gave up 7 unearned runs, but only allowed 4 hits.

Madison Bumgarner – May 23 – 6 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 ER, 6 K

Some question if Bumgarner is still a top pitcher, but I believe he is. He held the Braves in check earlier this season.

Noah Syndergaard – June 30 – 5.2 IP, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 ER, 5 K

Syndergaard hasn’t had the year many thought he would, but he’s still a really good pitcher. However, you wouldn’t know it by the line he had against the Atlanta Braves this year.
