2. Teheran Dazzles In D.C.

Julio Teheran had a rough start to the season and many fans were ready to throw in the towel. I honestly can’t say I blame anyone for thinking that.

He looked absolutely terrible early on in 2019 but he has bounced back and helped keep the Braves in games that he starts. The offense has often struggled to get him run support.

In his last 15 starts, Julio carries a 2.69 ERA with a 4-3 record in 80.1 innings pitched.

He’s allowed 24 earned runs on 64 hits with 36 walks and 66 strikeouts. The walks could be a bit lower but those are bound to happen with a guy that relies on movement as Teheran does. Even better, he’s only allowed 1 earned run or less in 11 of those starts.

Teheran has a nice career ERA when pitching at Nationals Park as well. It sits at 3.42 across 11 career starts in D.C. Atlanta hoped they’d see continued success on Tuesday night.

Well, they were in luck as Teheran continued to pitch well and received the run support he’s been searching for.

Teheran’s fastball command was excellent through every inning he pitched. It made his slider all the more effective. His fastball sat around the 90-92 mph range most of the evening and gave the Nats hitters fits for the most part.

This would allow the Colombian native to finish with just 2 earned runs allowed on 7 hits across 6.2 innings pitched. He walked 2 batters while striking out 6 of them.

The bullpen tried its best to ruin this performance from Teheran but in the end, they figured things out and preserved the win.

Teheran looked extremely confident and locked in on Tuesday night. That is so encouraging to see and I’ve appreciated all he’s done to improve his game this season.

He’s proven that he is still able to provide the Atlanta Braves will meaningful pitching performances. He’s kept us in almost every game he’s pitched in.

He even decided to contribute offensively on Tuesday. Julio drove in Ender Inciarte during the top of the 7th inning with a base hit. It was an all-around good night for the Braves right-hander.

I will take that kind of performance from Teheran any day. I hope that he’s able to continue his recent success throughout the final months of the 2019 season. I don’t know what his future is in Atlanta but he’s certainly made a nice case for himself to stay.
