4. Danny Duffy

The Atlanta Braves and the team’s fans saw first hand Tuesday evening how good Danny Duffy can be when his stuff is on. He has long been the best starter on the Kansas City Royals teams but one has to wonder if his time is getting short in the Midwest?

Duffy has a career ERA sitting right under the 4 mark, and while his 2019 ERA is higher than that at the moment, he has pitched much better the past month or two besides a bad start against the Tigers a few weeks ago.

The holdup with Duffy would most likely be his contract. He – like Lynn – is signed through the 2021 season but he is owed north of $15 million per year.

I don’t think the Royals would just ship him out for the sake of trading him. I think they would rather eat some of the money and ask for a more legit prospect(s) in return.

While I do think Duffy is a quality pitcher, I don’t think I would give the Royals any of our top half dozen prospects under any circumstance.

If they were willing to discuss a deal involving the lefty for a couple of prospects around the 10th-ranked range, then I might be willing to talk on the phone to Dayton Moore if I am Alex Anthopoulos. If not, you pick up and move on the next target.
