Atlanta Braves bargain shopping: 4 relievers to consider at the trade deadline
By Josh Mathews
4. Alex Colome, right-handed, Chicago White Sox
2019 stats: 37 games, 3-1 record, 2.21 ERA, 36.1 IP, 28 K, 11 BB, 20 saves
Contract situation: Makes $7.325 million this season, under team control through arbitration through 2020.
Ever since Alex Colome was converted to a full-time reliever by Tampa Bay in 2015, he’s been rock solid.
This year, he’s been especially hard on opposing batters, to the tune of a .132 batting average.
Your typical two-pitch pitcher, he relies on a nasty cutter (90-92 MPH) and a four-seamer at around 95 MPH.

Colome would provide an option to close games immediately should the Atlanta Braves decide to move Luke Jackson from the role.
Either Jackson or Colome would serve as effective set-up men if the Braves decide to trade for a more dominant closer.
The baseball trade simulator suggests that Colome (6.5 value) could be dealt for Joey Wentz (7.2 value) in a slight overpay, which would probably be required to get Colome.
If AA wants to go bargain shopping at this trade deadline, then these are some names he’ll probably go after.
All of these players pitchers would help improve the Braves bullpen without giving up much in return.
Whether or not that’s the best strategy for the Braves in 2019, that’s for AA and the front office to decide.
But if teams are asking for Cristian Pache, Drew Waters, or Ian Anderson in return for some of the bigger names on the market, look for AA to go with this fallback options.
