3 trades that make Atlanta Braves World Series contenders in 2019
Sam Dyson
I don’t really like the idea of doing a combo trade with the Giants because they’ll try to improve the best prospect they get back in the package.
Plus, it will be hard to do a package deal with MadBum because the Atlanta Braves are on his no-trade list and would hold all the power in that move.
But I really like the idea of the Atlanta Braves trading for Sam Dyson as another solid arm at the back of the bullpen along with Anthony Swarzak and Luke Jackson.
Outside of 17 really bad games with the Texas Rangers in 2017, Dyson has been really good throughout his career.
Last year he posted a 2.69 ERA with the San Francisco Giants in 70.1 innings with 56 strikeouts and a 1.08 WHIP.
In 2019 he has a 2.86 ERA in 44 innings with 40 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.97.
I would like for a late-innings reliever to have a higher K/9 than the 8.2 mark that Dyson currently holds. But he’s proven that he can have success without the high strikeout numbers.
He also has experience as a closer, and he’s controllable through next season.
Shane Greene is another name I considered here, but like his teammate Boyd, I’m worried he’s fool’s gold.
Greg Holland and Archie Bradley are both intriguing options if the Arizona Diamondbacks decide to sell.
