Atlanta Braves: Could or should Marcus Stroman be a legitimate target?
By Josh Mathews
How big of a return would be needed?
To pull off a trade for both Stroman and Giles we would almost definitely have to say goodbye to one of our ‘untouchables.’ In this scenario, Ian Anderson, Cristian Pache, Drew Waters, or Kyle Wright would have to go.
I’d also think that we’d need to include two additional prospects. I’d say a mid-level guy like Kolby Allard since he’s the most big league ready, and an additional lower tier prospect of some sort.
Looking at the ‘rumor,’ it also includes Ender Inciarte. While he is nearing a comeback for the Atlanta Braves, he would be a logical fit for the Blue Jays.
They have Teoscar Hernandez, who has been underwhelming this season, and Lourdes Guerriel Jr, who has recently been acclimated to the outfield, but could also play the infield. Ender is under team control through the 2021 season with a 9 million club option for 2022.
I think a package would be something to this effect: Ender Inciarte, Ian Anderson, Kolby Allard, and one low level minor leaguer.

Should the Atlanta Braves agree to such a deal?
No.
If we could not include Ian Anderson or Kyle Wright in the deal, I’m be much more inclined. That would mean that we’d need to stack the deck with other mid-level prospects and perhaps two other players.
So maybe a package such as: Ender Inciarte, Kolby Allard, Jaseel De La Cruz, and two other minor leaguers. That’s much more palatable.
Stroman is impressive, but not enough to give up a king’s ransom for. I feel the same way about Giles. It bothers me that they have both been so up and down at times during their career, and for Stroman, he’s had rather significant injuries twice.
Ultimately, I don’t think the Atlanta Braves are going to land one of the big fish at the deadline without giving up the likes of Anderson, Wright, Pache or Waters.
We may be better suited to go for mid-level acquisitions and to rely on the data our scouts have collected on those less publicized players.
Only time will tell what tricks AA has up his sleeve. The clock is ticking.
