The New York Mets

Every year we seem to hear that this is the Met’s year and every year those analysts are wrong. This year seems to be no different following a big offseason. The Mets currently sit 9 games out of first and have gone 4-6 in their last 10 games.

The Mets made a big splash with the acquisition of All-Star closer Edwin Diaz who simply hasn’t been the same this year. His ERA has jumped from 1.96 to 3.64 and has racked up 3 blown saves this year just one shy of his total last year.

Also acquired in the deal was Robinson Cano who isn’t the same player he once was and doesn’t look to be returning to form anytime soon. His leisure style of play is only exacerbating his poor .228 to the New York Media.

Jeurys Familia and Justin Wilson were two high-priced reliever signings that also hasn’t provided the lockdown back of the bullpen Brodie Van Wagenen envisioned.

The three-headed monster that is deGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler have not lived up to their career success and simply haven’t been able to put it together at the same time. Jacob deGrom has been the only one with success this year.

The Mets woes especially came to a head this past weekend when manager Mickey Callaway and Jason Vargas simply went off at a reporter. If you haven’t seen the report, the New York Times piece is here.
