MLB Power Rankings May 28th: Atlanta Braves creep up
By James Kunkle
11. Oakland Athletics
Here they come again. I don’t know how they do it every year, but the Athletics are right in the thick of the AL West and AL Wild card race again. Winning 10 in a row will do that for you
12. San Diego Padres
The Padres swept the Diamondbacks last week and put up a 19 spot on Toronto Saturday. Those are the things that will keep you in pennant races all year long.
13. Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona was the team this week to get hammered with bad luck injuries. David Peralta and Luke Weaver both hit the IL. Weaver was associated with the scary term of a forearm strain. Let’s hope it’s not too serious.
14. Cleveland Indians
Cleveland is running on hard times right now and the preseason AL Central favorite is in serious trouble as of now. They have fallen below the .500 mark and face a long hill back to catching the Twins.
15. St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals stole one from the Braves Saturday night only to allow a more dramatic comeback Sunday night to the Atlanta Braves. Like we mentioned earlier though, hopefully they can take care of the Phillies this week.
16. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates bounce up and down in our MLB Power Rankings, but as of now, they find themselves at the .500 mark. One streak away from getting back into the races or falling right out of them
17. New York Mets
The Atlanta Braves start to play the Nationals for the first time Tuesday evening. The Mets have already played them 12 times and they are 8-4 against them.
18. Colorado Rockies
The Rockies must love the feeling of nail-biting games. They have won three of the team’s last four games via a walk-off hit.
19. Texas Rangers
What a rebound season by Hunter Pence. Many evaluators were sure he was done, but he has proved that not to be the case this season with the Rangers.
20. Los Angeles Angels
The Twins and Rangers teamed up to beat up on the Angels before the Angels closed the week out with two wins. Good to see Andrew Heaney back on a mound as well.
