Are the Atlanta Braves in or out on Dallas Keuchel, Craig Kimbrel?

Of course there’s “interest”

Heck, I’d be interested in having a porterhouse steak tonight for dinner.  However, I’m not interested enough to get up and drive to a steakhouse to make it happen.  In fact, right now I’m thinking that a bowl of breakfast cereal is much more likely.

UPDATE:  Confirmed.

No – there’s nothing in that interview that says anything groundbreaking.  As much as I might like to have more page views about this, there’s just nothing here… so sorry Jim: I’m rating your tweet 85% on the Hype Meter.

Yeah – the Braves are going to research an evaluate both players… that’s called ‘due dilligence’.  I also believe that there are about 10 other baseball GM’s who might have signed off on the same statement that Anthopoulos made.

You could even argue that AA drew the short straw and was the one obligated to meet with Bowden on the show this morning.

So What’s the Deal?

Over the past 6 months, we’ve analyzed this mess 9 ways to Sunday and it’s about time for #10.  Here’s a few thoughts on the subject:

  • Anthopoulos has saved money for this time of the year.  After all of the backlash this Winter about his inability to land the big fish and the backlash over his comments during Spring Training, he’s going to try and use it.
  • He has acknowledged a need – at least for the bullpen – in today’s interview.
  • While it wouldn’t be a bad idea to add a groundball pitcher to the team, it’s not a huge priority right now.
  • The Atlanta Braves have shown that they are more than just competitive again this year.
    • At this point, they should be able to beat the Phillies; they need to insure that Philly doesn’t trump them with mid-season moves
    • The Braves’ offense could probably hang with the Dodgers right now… but they still have some work before that’s true with pitching.

That’s the Braves’ angle… but then there’s these pitchers…
