Atlanta Braves: who’s an All-Star?
By James Kunkle
2. Mike Soroka
Just like it has been in the past, coaches and players will pick the pitchers who consist of the all star teams. Mike Soroka will be included.
Not that I don’t think the fans wouldn’t have chosen Soroka (again Braves country always fills the boxes) but he will no doubt be passed over by his peers due to his rookie status.
The question with Soroka is, if he has another 6 or 7 starts like he already has, will he be considered to start the game? I would have to think yes as anybody who looks at his numbers will surely be impressed.
However, the reason why he probably wouldn’t start the game is let’s not forget that Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts is the NL Manager and the only player besides Soroka who has a strong case to start is Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu. Not that he doesn’t deserve the recognition for his strong year so far either, but it probably wouldn’t be a fair fight.
Either way, Soroka is well on his way to be a first time All-Star and it too has all the looks of the first of many for the young right-hander.
