(P) Quinn Priester

RHP — Cary-Grove H.S. (IL) — 45 FV

  • TCU commit
  • #19 on THE BOARD
  • 6’3″, 190 lbs.

Ranked just inside the top-20 on Fangraphs’ THE BOARD — 6th ranked pitcher and 4th ranked righty pitcher — Priester is currently trending upwards according to McDaniel and Logenhagen.

Being one of the only pitchers inside that particular pool of players that pitches in the cold, teams — whether rightly or wrongly — have given a little more love towards Priester, showing respect for a guy who is forced to generate stats in cruddy pitching conditions most of the time.

Show Me Some Numbers

As usual with high school players, stats can be almost impossible to find. But, luckily this time there are some numbers on Priester at Max Preps (previous profiled players haven’t had any individual stats on the site).

According to Priester’s page, he has pitched in 27 games thus far in 2019 and is running a 1.18 ERA for the Cary-Grove Trojans, who are currently 19-12 this season.

In 41.2 innings-pitched, Priester has 64 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .155 batting average. The righty has won six games thus far (losses aren’t listed).

In 2017, as a junior, the stats are relatively similar with Priester finishing the campaign with an exact 1.00 ERA, though in only 14 innings pitched. In those 14 frames, Priester struck out 18 batters.

With no confirmation as to exactly how accurate these stats are, I wouldn’t focus too much on his numbers — high school competition is a far cry from professional baseball in that of itself.

Max Preps is a site that can be edited, in terms of players’ stats, by just about anyone with a subscription (from my understanding), but it does list Priester’s career numbers so far in high school:

  • 88.1 IP
  • 1.11 ERA
  • 127 K
  • 10 wins
  • .154 BAA

Take those numbers for what you will, but if those stats are even close to being precise, then I’d say this is a talented pitcher. I’d also say they have to at least be close since… well, ya know, since he’s predicted to be a first-round pick in the MLB Draft.
