Game 1-Jack Flaherty vs. Mike Foltynewicz

In his career against the Atlanta Braves, Jack Flaherty is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA, with the lone start coming last season.

Freddie Freeman is 3-for-3 off Flaherty, including a home run. Freeman’s numbers are by far the best on the Braves roster.

In his past two starts, Flaherty is 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA, while his season numbers are a 3-3 record with a 4.32 ERA. He has struck out 47 batters in 41.2 innings.

The optimism continues to wane for Mike Foltynewicz, who was rocked for five earned runs in six innings in his last start against the Dodgers.

His velocity was still down and the Dodgers did most of their damage on his slider, which is still not working.

To add insult to injury, Foltynewicz has not fared well against St. Louis in his career, as he carries a record of 2-3 with a 8.06 ERA.

Kolten Wong, Matt Wieters, Matt Carpeneter and Paul DeJong all have solid numbers off Foltynewicz.

Wong has hit .714 with a home run, Wieters has a .313 average, Carpenter .286 average with a homer, and DeJong has hit .400 with a home run.

It’s easy to not feel comfortable about this game. The Braves offense may need to outhit the Cardinals.
