2. Adjustments at the Plate

A looming problem against the teams out west continues to be production at the plate. Atlanta just can’t seem to hit the ball against the big clubs.

Now, production is definitely on the upswing, it seems, as we saw Wednesday night. Our history, let alone anyone’s, against Clayton Kershaw continues to be not all that positive, but last night looked to be a step in the right direction in the form of a 21-year-old Venezuelan.

It was a beautiful home run and a sign that they’re moving in the right direction with their approach against West Coast pitchers, but more needs to be done.

Los Angeles pitchers currently have a 2.33 ERA with 23 strikeouts against the Atlanta Braves this season, clearly showing they know how to pitch around the dangerous offense to get results.

Production at the plate against Los Angeles has been a continuous problem for Atlanta. The fastballs keep blowing past, off-speed keeps getting chased, and more swings than takes are being had at the plate.

Now, a good portion of our offense is still on the younger side, which means they still have a lot to learn about their approach to the dangerous pitches that the Dodgers provide.

Time, adjustments, and continual work to get the barrel on the breaking pitches will give our team average nowhere to go but up.
