Trade conversations

I reached out to Joel and told him that I was interested in trading for both Will Smith and Tony Watson.

As both of those guys are free agents after the season, I let Joel know I wouldn’t be willing to trade the farm for both of them.

Joel told me that unless we were willing to part with a Major League level player with years of control like Johan Camargo, he’d rather get prospects in return.

At that point, I tossed out Ender Inciarte as an option, but he wasn’t interested in a “light-hitting outfielder.” Instead, he wanted to talk about our pitching prospects.

He was correct in assuming that the top tier pitching prospects like Kyle Wright, Ian Anderson, Mike Soroka, and Touki Toussaint were off limits in this type of deal.

So he asked for either Joey Wentz or Kyle Muller.

Recently I did an article and made three trade proposals that could improve the Atlanta Braves bullpen now.

In that article, I proposed a trade that sent Joey Wentz to the Giants straight up for Will Smith.

I got killed on Twitter and in the comments for that, so I told Joel I wasn’t ready to take on that scrutiny again. However, if I’m being honest, I would probably still trade Wentz straight up for Smith and Watson.

But I turned down both Wentz and Muller and instead offered one of Kolby Allard, Trey Riley, or Huascar Ynoa.

Joel wasn’t really interested in any of them and wanted Freddy Tarnok. I didn’t really think the Atlanta Braves would be willing to part with someone who they spent a lot of money on like Tarnok who still has a lot of upside.
