Game 1:  Kyle Hendricks vs. Sean Newcomb

MON APR 1 / 7:00PM / SUNTRUST PARK / ESPN TV

I’ll get to the matchup eventually, but as it turns out, your trusty editors will both be at this game, the home opener for the Braves.

Jake will be there just because it’s cool; I will be there because it’s cool and because Chevrolet has set me up with a new ride for the week to enjoy the festivities:  a Red 2019 Silverado with extended cab.

So while we’ll both be checking out the game, I’ll also be checking out the amenities of this vehicle.  First impressions:  extraordinarily quiet and car-like in the ride.  That’s not usual for a truck!

Public Service Advisory

This will be my second trip to SunTrust Park, and already I have noted some changes from last year.  I’m going to note now this for those with accessibility challenges, for it’s something that I missed out on last year simply due to a lack of advance knowledge.

There are over a dozen parking areas around the stadium, and last year (I discovered this too late), there was a phone number that you could call to arrange for a pickup from whatever (official) parking lot you were in.

That changes for 2019.  There will be 2 designated lots for pickup… and your handicap parking placard or license plate will be required.

One of these is the N29 (North 29) lot along the Circle 75 Parkway north of the stadium.  If this isn’t the largest lot available, it’s darn close.

The other location is the ‘Red Deck’.  This is also on the Circle 75 Parkway, but just SW of the stadium… just on the other side of the Comcast building.

Another option that you might have available – particularly if you have a nearby hotel – is a hotel shuttle van.  Drops-offs of all sorts are permitted on Battery Avenue at the 3rdBase gate (adjacent to the stadium between home plate and the Delta parking garage).

But if you’re buying a parking pass and you’re in need of one of these services, please get that parking pass early to insure that you have access to a shuttle.  It can be a very long walk otherwise.

I’ll have more about that after Monday, but let’s get to the game.
