Drew Waters had a reputation coming into the season with a tremendous amount of raw talent, but he struggled in the first month of the season to the tune of a .237/.297/.424 line with a home run and 3 stolen bases.

He began to pick it up in May in general, but his series against Lexington from May 21-24 was a definite launching pad as he hit for a .378/.429/.733 line with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, and 3 steals over those 11 games. It is the game on May 23rd that we’re focusing on here.

Waters is blessed with a host of natural talent, with speed and power in droves as well as the ability to handle any outfield position defensively. On the 23rd, he showed off his power and speed both.

Waters led off the game with a double. He stole third base before being stranded there. He came up next in the 3rd inning and laced a triple. This time the Rome lineup came through, driving him in with a single.

Rome moved the offense through to bring Waters back to the plate in the top of the 5th with 2 outs. He drew a walk and advanced to second on a single before being stranded on second. In the top of the 8th, Waters was plunked to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a ground out before scoring on a single.

In the 9th inning, the R-Braves got one more shot at the plate. Waters laced a double down the first base line with two runners on base, driving in one.

He finished the day reaching base 5 times, going 3-3 with a pair of doubles and a triple, scoring 2 runs and driving in one.
