Atlanta Braves: The Case to Keep Inciarte and Trade Foltynewicz
Might Be Time To Move Folty
Let me start by saying that I love Folty and hope he is with the Atlanta Braves in 2019 and beyond.
But, if the Braves do have to move some major league talent this offseason in order to improve the team, trading Folty makes a lot of sense.
He’s coming off an All-Star season with a 2.85 ERA in 183 innings pitched with 202 strikeouts. The Braves would obviously be selling high on him as I think we may have seen the best of Folty.

I realize he’s just 27-years-old and could still have more years like this, but he was truly outstanding at times in 2018 and I find it hard to believe that he will be able to duplicate that type of success.
If I’m projecting Folty for the future I think he’s a 3.50 ERA guy who will be hard pressed to ever throw 200 innings. With his strikeout stuff, I wouldn’t be surprised if he strikes out 200 batters again.
Ultimately, I think Folty is a very solid two or three starter. So it only makes sense to move him if we acquired a controllable ace like a Corey Kluber.
Later in the day, AA killed any rumors about possibly moving Folty, but I still think it could make sense in the right deal.
We’ll see what happens as the Winter Meetings continue, but I would still be shocked if the Braves trade Inciarte or Folty.
Even though there have been several reports about Inciarte being expendable, I think that makes no sense. We only have three outfielders on the 40-man roster.
Again, I trust AA and believe he will do what’s best for this team now and for the future.
