Atlanta Braves free agent profile: Michael Brantley
The contract cost
With multiple excellent outfielders on the market, Michael Brantley isn’t the only option for the Atlanta Braves to fill their outfield spot.

On MLBTR’s top 50 free agent rankings and contract predictions article had Brantley predicted to the Braves for a 3-year, $45 million contract. While that doesn’t seem crazy for an outfielder who is ranked 10th on that list, 3rd among outfielders, it is a fairly significant investment.
Bringing in Brantley would give the Atlanta Braves a lefty hitter in their lineup, something they need right now, though he wouldn’t exactly be providing significant power as Brantley has never had more than 20 home runs in a season.
Frankly, at age 32 in May, Brantley feels like signing Nick Markakis before 2015. While the first half of 2018 was exciting for Markakis, the team was wanting more the entire time Markakis was part of the organization.
The Atlanta Braves do need an outfielder, but unless they can get the right deal, Brantley could be a rough deal for the team.
