ATLANTA, GA – JUNE 14: Third baseman Johan Camargo #17 of the Atlanta Braves dives but misses a ball hit by catcher A.J. Ellis #17 of the San Diego Padres for a double in the sixth inning during the game at SunTrust Park on June 14, 2018, in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Mike Zarrilli/Getty Images) /

No Love for Atlanta Braves Camargo

The Fielding Bible got it half right; one of their favorites earned a nomination and will probably with the award. He should win, he’s the best in baseball today.

Their other favorite – I have no idea why they considered him a favorite – did not earn a nomination.

The Atlanta Braves entered this season looking for a third baseman. Johan Camargo tapped them on the shoulder and said, “I’d like to apply.”

The Braves accepted that application and Camargo went on to have a fine year. Unfortunately, from a Gold Glove point of view, he plays in the wrong league.

When you play third base in the same league as Arenado your chances of a nomination and winning a Gold Glove at that position are minuscule.

The calculation for DRS confuses me. Arenado’s had 20 for the past two years and never less than 16 before 2018.  Arenado is better than Brooks Robinson at his best. If you haven’t watched him play, do yourself a favor and find time to do that.
