The deGrominator

The Mets appeared to have at least entertained the thought of trading the soon-to-be Cy Young winner, Jacob deGrom, at the trading deadline.

Logic would say they would do the same this winter.

deGrom is headed towards his second year of arbitration and mlbtraderumors.com projects his salary to be close to 13 million.

That salary is cheap for an ace (though not necessarily so to the Wilpons) and with deGrom not scheduled to be a free agent until 2021, the asking price will be astronomically high.

This will be the case not only because of his (probably) award winning season, but also because of the inner-division dynamic… never mind the fact that the Mets Front Office is undergoing its own rebuild.

This is completely spit balling, but a package built around three elite prospects, plus two or three more seems logical.

So, if you were Alex Anthopolous, would offer, say Toussaint, Kyle Wright, Austin Riley and two others for deGrom?

Who knows if that’s what an acceptable offer would look like, but it has to be close.
