Atlanta Braves top July hitter

With the team hitting so well on the month, picking the best hitter was actually quite difficult. Let’s look at the individual leaders first…

  • BA (min 25 PA): Freddie Freeman .315
  • OBP: Nick Markakis .366
  • SLG: Ronald Acuna .512
  • OPS: Freddie Freeman .864
  • R: Three with 13
  • H: Freddie Freeman 29
  • 2B: Charlie Culberson 8
  • 3B: Three with 1
  • HR: Ronald Acuna, Johan Camargo 5
  • RBI: Freddie Freeman 14
  • SB: Ronald Acuna, Ozzie Albies 3

Even in the worst offensive month of the season, the Atlanta Braves offense continued to still be solid. That was the thing about the offense in 2018. Rather than having everyone humming at all times, the Braves seemingly had 3-4 guys clicking at a time all season long, and the offense always had multiple threats to a pitcher that were going well at the time.

That was true in July most of all, and it’s why I’m going to split the award between the two guys who really took their turns being the leader of the “carrying” group. In the first half of the month, that was Freddie Freeman. In the second half, that was Ronald Acuna.

As was mentioned above, coming out of the All-Star break was really when Acuna was let loose on the league from the leadoff spot. Over the month, Freeman and Acuna had some overlap in their hot streaks, but it was as if Freeman headed into the All-Star game with the team on his shoulders and gladly handed that burden off when the break was over.
