Atlanta Braves top March/April hitter

With the team hitting so well on the month, picking the best hitter was actually quite difficult. Let’s look at the individual leaders first…

  • BA (min 25 PA): Freddie Freeman .314
  • OBP: Freddie Freeman .437
  • SLG: Ozzie Albies .647
  • OPS: Freddie Freeman .995
  • R: Ozzie Albies 29
  • H: Ozzie Albies 34
  • 2B: Ozzie Albies 12
  • 3B: Five with 1
  • HR: Ozzie Albies 9
  • RBI: Ozzie Albies 20
  • SB: Ender Inciarte 13

While the prevalence of one name on that list makes it seem like it’s an easy choice, between Freeman and Ozzie is a very tough pick when you review the entirety of their month. However, Ozzie is the pick here.

Ozzie Albies came out in the month of April swinging a hot bat, driving the ball well and jumping all over anything in the zone that he could punish. His speed was a weapon on the bases, and the combination of Inciarte, who had a solid month in his own right, and Albies 1-2 in the lineup really set the tone for the whole lineup on the month.

For Ozzie, the cruddy weather of the Chicago Cubs series in the Windy City in the middle of the month really didn’t phase him. While the third game was canceled, in the first two games of that series, Ozzie put up a 5 for 10 line, scoring 3 runs, smacking 3 doubles and a home run, and driving in 4 runs.

Overall on the month, he had a .293/.341/.647 slash line with 12 doubles, a triple, and 9 home runs. He scored 29 runs and drove in 20 while stealing 3 bases and posting a 7/24 BB/K ratio.
