Roster Maneuvers

The Atlanta Braves recalled Kolby Allard and optioned Chad Sobotka to make room on the 25-man roster.  Allard’s recall on day 19 instead of day 20 in the minors served the administrative purpose of retaining a third option year for the young pitcher. This allows Allard and Sobotka to enter 2019 with three option years remaining.

The Braves also confirmed Mike Soroka won’t pitch again this year.

Kevin McAlpin (Twitter link) reports that the Braves plan to activate Shane Carle, Peter Moylan on Saturday. He also notes that the plan calls for Brandon McCarthy’s activation as well.

Brian Snitker told Gabriel Burns he expects more additions.

"(Snitker) anticipates four or five immediate pitching promotions . .  the aforementioned trio, along with Bryse Wilson and/or Touki Toussaint. Both prospects will eventually rejoin the Braves . . .there (sic) roles are unclear beyond occasional starts and reliever roles."

If the Braves activate McCarthy a 40-man roster move will be required. Further to that, rumors suggest that Ryan Flaherty and Lane Adams could be added as well.

Flaherty presumably gives them another backup infielder. Since going to Gwinnett, Flaherty is 5 for 18, five strikeouts and two walks in 20 PA; .278/.350/.333/.683.

Lane Adams would be the designated pinch-runner.

This is your 40-man roster as of now.

That’s a wrap

The flurry of last-minute activity concluded with the Duda trade. The announcement of projected pitcher promotions indicates that they are likely done now. The only thing that would change that would be a prized player falling to the Braves at the last-minute.

While the Braves will never say one way or the other. the Duda acquisition could come as a result of news from Florida.

It appears the Blue Jays are stuck with Josh Donaldson for the rest of the year. His calves are causing pain the day after he played six innings. No, I’m not surprised either.

dark. Next. Freddie slightly slumping

That’s all I have right now. If something breaks we’ll get the news and our Take to you as soon as we can.
