Atlanta Braves could “look at anybody” to win
The Meat Part
With that, I’ll skip to the interesting bit… truncating Kincade’s next question:
JK: Is that budget potentially going to change [if this team is still in contention in mid-July]?
AA: “I have a certain payroll amount that I work with going into the year. That can evolve and change.”

[relating recent discussion with Terry McGuirk] ‘Obviously it’s still early, it’s nice, everybody’s excited about the way the team’s playing. As things evolve and merge, and hopefully – come July – we’re in that [contending] position … Should that be the case, you can look at anybody. Don’t concern yourself with what your [payroll budget] number was coming into the season.
“Winning is the priority here; winning is what we want to do – and it’s the same stuff he told me
on this job – the fact is it really starts with him [McGuirk].”
- This is how AA ran his operation in Toronto. If he felt he needed a big piece or a small one, he went out and did that to bolster his team for a stretch run. This is not a new policy for the Braves’ GM… it’s how he supplies a team.
- CEO Terry McGuirk wants to win, too. Don’t miss that.
There was more – 4 more minutes out of 10:44 – but that’s what you want to hear, right?
The Last Question on this clip
JK: This off-season…. is there cash for a “big fish”?
AA: (nods confidently) Yeah!
So here is an really fun situation: the Braves need to simply keep doing what they have been doing. If they can do so, then their Front Office will definitely support their efforts and insure that the resources are available and the holes are filled.
Next: We've got a key piece back
Hopefully we’ll see how that works – sometime between now and July 31st.
