Hitter of the week: Signed out of Cuba this winter, many fans entered the season knowing very little about Alay Lago. With Florida’s games not broadcast on MiLB.tv, many have missed out on a chance to see Lago and get an idea of who he is as a player.

Lago may not be an incredibly elite defender or the next Ryne Sandberg. However, he’s having a very quality season with Florida and may earn a promotion to Mississippi soon. This past week, he put on a show, hitting .480/.500/.800 with 4 runs, a double, two triples, a home run, 4 RBI, and even 2 steals.

Honorable mention: Taken in the 11th round this season, the Atlanta Braves thought they had a jewel in power hitter Drew Lugbauer. He may not stick at catcher long-term, but the Braves will be trying him at multiple positions that he is comfortable with, as he’s already caught and played third base.

Lugbauer with Danville had a booming week, hitting .417/.500/1.250 with a double and three home runs on the week, driving in 8 runs.

Pitcher of the week: He’s struggled for much of the season to gain his footing and establish himself the way many thought he would in returning to AAA this year, but this week Matt Wisler had a start that many thought he’d be capable of for some time, going 6 innings, allowing no runs on 6 hits and a walk, striking out 5.

Honorable mention: The Braves were pleased to get Luiz Gohara this offseason in the Mallex Smith deal, and he completely dominated the Florida State League. Suffering through injuries once he was promoted to AA Mississippi, Gohara has just started to round into form now that he is fully healthy. In his start this week, Gohara went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and a walk, striking out 5.
