Hitter of the week: Many dismissed Joey Meneses‘ big 2016 start with Carolina as being old for the level and repeating the level, but he’s turned it on at Mississippi this year at roughly the same time he did it at Carolina last season.

On the week, Meneses barely took the weekly title with a line of .458/.480/.875 with a double, 3 home runs, and 8 RBI. He’s providing a steady bat in the middle of the Mississippi lineup that often has some up and down within the lineup.

Honorable mention: Speaking of that up and down, one of the most streaky guys on the team this year has been Travis Demeritte. Plugged in at third base for much of the week, Demeritte certainly didn’t let the position switch affect his hitting, as he pounded out a .364/.440.909 line with a double, triple, and 3 home runs.

Pitcher of the week: Returning from injury, Joey Wentz looked excellent in two starts, though he was on a limited pitch count in both starts, or he could have tallied even better overall stats.

Combined on the two starts, he went 9 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 9.

Honorable mention: The Braves have been blessed to have a number of flexible pitchers step up that can work in the bullpen or rotation. Andrew Albers has been that sort of guy for Gwinnett, and the lefty had a pair of good appearances on the week, totaling 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and no walks, striking out 9.
