What Would Be Changed

I’ve be mulling this for a while and various ideas have been considered.  Here’s my proposal:

  • Keep the fans in the process… but only for a 33% voting share
  • Voting is limited to ONE vote per person/email/IP
  • Voting opens June 15, closes Jun 30.  The idea of starting the vote on May 1st is also absurd.
  • Players and coaches get a 33% voting share… and players cannot vote for current teammates.
  • A committee similar to that of the Fielding Bible awards gets the other 33% voting share.  They would choose All-Stars based on stats… offensive mostly, but defensive studs would also get a fair hearing.
  • If you want a “last man in” voting thing by the fans that’s based solely on popularity, that’s fine… but just one!

Unite for the Cause

The only way to effect a change is to make the All-Star game as horrible as possible.  Let MLB know they have gone too far down a bad path.

So would voting for the worst players work?  Not unless the country buys in to the concept – in droves.  So yeah – the chances of this happening are slim… unless people like me who actually want something to change decide to pursue it.

If this were to happen, would those players even show up?  After all, the premise for them being there is that they were the worst on the ballot… but because they really deserved the honor.

Answer:  I don’t care… just deliver the message to MLB that their process is badly flawed.  That’s the idea here.
