Atlanta Braves high-A Affiliate Florida Fire Frogs Official Roster and Preview
Pitchers
Starters – Luiz Gohara, Drew Harrington, Tyler Pike, Ricardo Sanchez, Touki Toussaint
I mentioned in my prediction of the level that I thought it made sense to have Pike in Florida with Dennis Lewallyn, but Harrington here also makes a lot of sense as a guy who has very elite two-pitch stuff, and if he could even get his third pitch to average, he could be a great pitcher.
What’s very interesting is that will leave the Florida starting staff with Touki and four lefties. That could be an interesting mix.
Relievers – Corbin Clouse, Josh Graham, Chase Johnson-Mullins, Taylor Lewis, Sean McLaughlin, Andrew Santiago, Devan Watts, Jacob Webb
Seriously, this could be the most impressive bullpen in all of the minor leagues. I loved the Mississippi ‘pen, but that pen is not at the same level as this one in raw talent.
One guy I’ve been talking up all offseason is Webb, who recorded 31 of the 39 outs he recorded in 2016 through strikeout. His stuff is ridiculous, and he may be the 4th or 5th most talented reliever in this bullpen, which is just insane!
Analysis
Lewallyn chose to go to Florida for a reason, and it wasn’t JUST the better weather or possibly better facilities.
He’s going to get to work with an elite group of arms, both starters and bullpen. I’m very intrigued to see what he can do with Gohara, Sanchez, and Toussaint, especially after seeing the work he did with Whalen, Ellis, Sims, and Newcomb in Mississippi last season.
Florida may take a bit to get its feet under it, but there is the talent here to be absolutely a tremendous force in their first year in the FSL.
