News From Braves Country

  • Old friend Ryan Lavarnway blasted a 2-run homer early this morning (not on his clock) as Team Israel bombed Taiwan for 20 hits and a 15-7 victory in WBC action.  Don’t look now, but Israel is 2-0 in pool play… and it’s not every day that we cite the Jerusalem Post in a baseball quote.
  • The Atlanta Braves tried to sneak recently acquired Christian Walker through waivers, but the Cincinnati Reds would have none of that.  They have claimed the first baseman, leaving 38 on the Braves’ 40-man roster.
  • The Braves ticket office hired an intern for the day yesterday to sell tickets.  Some guy named Jones.  I understand he was let go later in the day because he kept putting his feet up on the desk.
  • If you’d like a relative bargain in the Milton, GA area, try looking up John Smoltz‘ house.  He tried to sell it for $7.2 million 5 years ago.  The 18,000 square foot mansion sitting on 19.7 acres – with the kinds of upgrades you’d expect from Smoltzie – is still on the market, though – now priced just under $5.5 million.

Heck, anybody wanna buy my house?  It’s a lot more affordable.  Of course it’s also in Alabama, so the commute might be a bit long.
